The Fuel Your Good State Project empowers students to raise their voices and lay claim to the good they do for themselves, their schools and communities, and the planet. Students are encouraged to design and implement an innovative health project focusing on topics such as food insecurities, the hunger gap, food desserts, sustainable nutrition, food waste/recovery, preparing nutritious food, and personal and emotional health.

www.FuelUp.org supports the Fuel Your Good State Project with free tools and resources. Use the Fuel Up Playbook (www.fuelup.org/resources/playbooks) for inspiration and examples of different types of activities and initiatives that have been executed across the nation. Fuel Up and America’s dairy farmers have been helping students lead healthier lives since 2009.

Fuel Your Good: Ohio FCCLA Chapter Spotlight

The Jackson Center Jr./Sr. High School – Upper Valley Career Center chapter addressed student stress and hunger through the Ohio FCCLA state project “Fuel Your Good.” In response to a survey, the chapter implemented mindfulness activities in FCS classes, including color breathing, sensory evaluation, and stress writing, which have been well-received. They also created a mindfulness bulletin board and provided large adult coloring sheets, which have become very popular among students. Additionally, the chapter introduced a snack basket stocked with light snacks to curb hunger, which has been a huge success, with the basket often empty by lunchtime. These initiatives have significantly improved student well-being and engagement at Jackson Center Jr./Sr. High School.

We Help Two was founded on the belief that fundraising can be done in a way that benefits two causes. By hosting a funky sock fundraiser through We Help Two, organizations not only raise funds for their cause but also impact their local community through their sock donation program to local homeless shelters.

FCCLA® has partnered with We Help Two to support their Water for Africa program. This incredible program helps to fund sustainable water projects throughout Africa. These projects become a lifeline for the surrounding communities and reduce the risk of waterborne illnesses.

Consider these facts:

  • Every 20 seconds a child dies from lack of access to clean water.
  • Women and children in many communities spend up to 60 percent of each day walking to collect water.
  • 4,500 children die each day due to unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation.

Most of us don’t even think about it. We use 80 – 100 gallons of water every day. It’s just a part of life.

But for millions of children throughout the developing world, the possibility of drinking clean water is just a dream.

We started the sock campaign to provide clean drinking water for communities in Rwanda so children and their families can get the clean water they need to live healthy lives.
